Traditions & Events

Many of the events held in Basel are long-standing traditions. The famous Basel carnival (Fasnacht) has its roots in the 14th century and the autumn fair is more than 500 years old, and several more recent events have similarly become part of the city’s heritage. 
Of course, many smaller events also paved the way for Basel’s cultural capital status: some are already well established, others are still finding their niche, but they have one thing in common – they are all organised and run with great passion.
